What we do with your data
Short version: we store your email address if you give it to us, we don’t store the address you look up, we use no cookies and no third-party trackers, and you can have your data deleted by asking.
Who we are
Prepared Seller is run by a UK-based individual as a sole trader. That person is the data controller for preparedseller.co.uk. It is not a limited company, and it is currently an early-stage service being tested — we are not taking payment for anything.
Use the contact form for anything about your data. We answer within 30 days and usually much sooner. If you need the controller’s name and a postal address in writing — for a formal request, or to complain — ask there and we will give it to you.
What we collect, and why
| What | When | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your email address | Only when you submit it to join a waiting list | To email you once when the product is available, or when we cover your area | Consent |
| A random visitor ID | Generated in your browser on first visit | To understand how the site is used, and to keep the price you are shown consistent | Legitimate interests |
| Page views and events | As you use the site | To see which pages and steps work | Legitimate interests |
| Postcode and house number | When you run the free check | To look up public records for that address | Legitimate interests |
What we do not do
- We do not store the address you look up. It is used to query public records for the duration of the request and is not saved against you.
- We use no cookies and no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- We do not sell or share your email address with anyone.
- We do not track you across other websites.
Storage in your browser
We store a randomly generated identifier in your browser’s local storage. It is not a cookie, it contains nothing about you, and it is not linked to your name or email unless you choose to give us one. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Where your data goes
Email addresses are stored in a database operated by Cloudflare, our hosting provider. Usage events are stored in Cloudflare’s analytics service. When you run the free check, we query three public data sources on your behalf: the Energy Performance of Buildings Register, the ONS postcode database via postcodes.io, and planning.data.gov.uk. We do not send them anything about you beyond the address you asked about.
How long we keep it
- Email addresses: until you ask us to delete them, or 24 months from the day you gave it to us, whichever comes first. If we decide not to build the product, we delete the whole list rather than keeping it.
- Usage events: 12 months, then deleted.
- Postcodes and addresses you look up: not stored at all.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you
- correct it if it is wrong
- delete it
- stop using it, or give you a copy to take elsewhere
- withdraw consent at any time, which for us means unsubscribing
Send us a message and we will action it, free of charge, within 30 days. You never have to give a reason for asking us to delete your data.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first, but you are not obliged to.
